First light: a dawn swim at the river mouth
~2h · easy · 1–8 people · Serra Grande, Bahia

What you’ll do
We meet at the beach entrance about twenty minutes before sunrise, walk to where the Rio do Sargi braids into the Atlantic, and get in. This coast faces east, so the sun comes straight up out of the ocean — most people sleep through it.
Fishermen first, then us. Marina swims this stretch most mornings and knows where the river current is gentle and where it isn’t. Afterwards there’s coffee on the sand. Nobody films it; that’s sort of the point.
What’s included
- Marina with you in the water the whole time
- Coffee and fruit after
- A dry bag for your things
What to bring
- swimwear
- a towel
- reef shoes if you have them

Questions people ask
- How early is early?
- We meet about twenty minutes before sunrise — roughly 05:20 to 05:50 depending on the month. Marina sends the exact time the evening before.
- Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
- No. We stay where the river meets the sea and the water is calm. You can also just wade and watch.
- What if the sea is rough?
- We move to the river side, or we walk instead. The sunrise still happens.
